Illinois Wesleyan University's men's tennis team secured a 6-3 victory over Webster University on Friday night. This win marks the Titans' fourth consecutive triumph, bringing their record to 4-1, while Webster's falls to 2-4.
In doubles action, freshman Thad Dillow and sophomore Griffin Hammond achieved the only victory for Illinois Wesleyan with an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles. Despite trailing 2-1 after doubles, the Titans claimed five of six singles matches to clinch the overall win.
Sophomore Ian Turnbull began singles play with a victory at the top spot, winning his sets 6-3, 6-2. Senior Ryan McCoy won at No. 3 singles with set scores of 6-1, 6-3. Dillow continued his successful evening with a decisive 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles.
Junior Zeke Cross and Hammond both went the distance in their matches to secure wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively. Cross overcame a first-set loss to win his match with scores of 3-6, 6-1, and 10-5. Similarly, Hammond recovered from a first-set defeat to take his match with scores of 4-6, 7-5, and 10-6.
The Titans are scheduled to face Illinois State University in an exhibition match on February 24 at Evergreen Racquet Club.
