Illinois State University has announced the appointment of Brandon Duncan as the new assistant coach for its softball team. Head coach Tina Kramos shared this development on Tuesday, emphasizing Duncan's extensive coaching experience, which spans over 17 years at various collegiate levels. Duncan is set to focus on working with the Redbird pitchers and catchers.
"We are excited to have Brandon join our Redbird Softball family," Kramos stated. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program, and we are looking forward to Brandon leading our experienced pitching staff."
Duncan's previous coaching roles include positions at Miami (Ohio), Rutgers, Toledo, Charleston Southern, Samford, Virginia, and Georgia Tech. His recent tenure was at Miami (Ohio) as a pitching coach, where he contributed to the NFCA Great Lakes Region Coaching Staff of the Year.
"I'm extremely grateful for Coach Kramos' belief in me," Duncan expressed. "Illinois State has a rich softball tradition and I'm excited to help her build upon the past successes of the program."
Before joining Miami (Ohio), Duncan served as an assistant coach at Rutgers focusing on pitchers and slap hitters. During his time there, one of his players achieved All-Big Ten recognition as a freshman.
Duncan's coaching career began at Charleston Southern before moving on to Toledo in 2017, where he was part of the MAC Coaching Staff of the Year in 2018. He also held positions at Samford University from 2011-14 and was head coach at Lander University from 2007-11.
Duncan holds a bachelor's degree in history from Alabama and was involved with their softball program as a student manager during his studies.
