The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team experienced a setback as their five-game winning streak ended with a 6-3 loss to Greenville University on Saturday, March 2. This result leaves Illinois Wesleyan with a record of 5-2, while Greenville's record stands at 4-4.
In doubles competition, the Titans secured one victory at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Ben Vigneri and junior Zeke Cross won their match using a tiebreaker, finishing with an 8-7 (4) score.
In singles play, Illinois Wesleyan claimed victories in the No. 5 and No. 6 positions but struggled against the top players from Greenville. Zeke Cross triumphed at No. 5 singles with set scores of 6-4, 7-5. Sophomore Griffin Hammond achieved success at No. 6 singles after three sets, winning the first set 7-5, losing the second set 6-4, and ultimately taking the final set with a score of 10-6.
The Titans are scheduled to continue their season during spring break with four matches in Orlando, Florida from March 11 to March 14.
