The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team emerged victorious against Millikin University in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match, winning 6-3 on Saturday, April 6. This victory improved IWU's record to 9-4 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while Millikin fell to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in league play.
IWU began the match strongly by sweeping the doubles matches. Sophomore Ian Turnbull from Bloomington and senior Ryan McCoy from Arlington Heights secured an 8-7(4) win at the top doubles spot. In the second position, sophomore Ben Vigneri from Casper and junior Zeke Cross from Springfield won with a score of 8-4. The Titans claimed victory at No. 3 doubles due to a default.
In singles matches, Turnbull achieved victory at No. 1 singles with set scores of 7-5, 6-2. Cross and sophomore Griffin Hammond from Metamora also won their matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively by default.
Illinois Wesleyan is set to host North Central College on Friday, April 12, with the CCIW contest scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. at Evergreen Racquet Club.
