Sophomore Ian Turnbull from Illinois Wesleyan University has been named a co-recipient of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Player of the Week honors. The announcement was made by the league's office on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. Turnbull shares this recognition with Ramon Vilarroig from North Central College.

Turnbull, who was a Second Team All-CCIW selection for the 2022-23 season, receives his first weekly award from the conference. He is the fifth player under head coach Sam Totten to receive this accolade. Previous recipients include his brother Evan Turnbull (March 22, 2023), Ryan McCoy (February 22, 2023), Justin Piotrowski (March 17, 2021), and Demetrios Triantafel (February 27, 2019).

Turnbull has been leading as IWU's No. 1 player since he joined the campus team. On Saturday, February 17, he helped guide the Titans to two significant victories by accumulating four wins over two matches in one day.

Against Monmouth College, Turnbull secured a win at No. 1 doubles with set scores of 6-1 and 6-0. Teaming up with senior Ryan McCoy at No. 1 doubles again resulted in an impressive victory of 8-1 for their team.

In another match against Principia College that concluded with a narrow win of 5-4 for IWU, Turnbull played a crucial role in securing the program’s first-ever win over Principia Panthers. Despite losing the first set at No. 1 singles with a score of 6-4, he rallied back with a decisive second set win at 6-0 and clinched victory in the tiebreaker with a score of 10-6.

Turnbull continued his successful weekend in doubles action alongside McCoy as they triumphed once more with a scoreline of 6-4.
