The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team achieved a clean sweep against Elmhurst University in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match on Saturday, March 30. This victory brings IWU's overall record to 8-4, with a conference record of 1-0.
In doubles competition, the Titans secured victories at No. 1 and No. 2 positions, while Elmhurst forfeited at No. 3, giving IWU an initial advantage. Sophomore Ian Turnbull from Bloomington and senior Ryan McCoy from Arlington Heights won their match at No. 1 with a score of 8-1. Meanwhile, Ben Vigneri from Casper and Zeke Cross from Springfield triumphed at No. 2 with an 8-0 result.
The success continued for Illinois Wesleyan in singles matches as Turnbull, Vigneri, McCoy, Thad Dillow from Effingham, and Griffin Hammond from Metamora all claimed victories.
Turnbull dominated his opponent with a straight-set win of 6-0, 6-0. Vigneri emerged victorious in a challenging match at No. 2 with scores of 7-5 and 6-0.
McCoy and Dillow both achieved wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles respectively, each securing a scoreline of 6-1, 6-1. Hammond completed his match at the No. 5 position with a decisive win of 6-1, 6-0.
Senior Jordan Sibley-Diggs from Oak Park concluded the scoring by winning via forfeit at the No. 6 slot.
Illinois Wesleyan will next face Millikin University on Thursday, April 4th, with the first serve scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
