For the first time in her two-year tenure leading the Illinois Wesleyan University bowling team, head coach Melissa Mutters has been honored as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Coach of The Year. The announcement was made on March 21 by the conference office. Mutters shares this recognition with Marty Resner from Augustana College and Katleyn Zwiefelhofer from Carthage College.
Under Mutters' leadership, now in its third year, the Illinois Wesleyan bowling program achieved several record-setting performances throughout the season. The team set a new high for baker total pinfall score at 883 against Elmhurst University during the CCIW Face Off on February 4. This season alone saw the Titans achieve their top-five baker total pinfalls.
Mutters' coaching also contributed to individual successes, notably that of freshman Kiera Henderson from Silvis, Illinois. Henderson recorded a program-high total pinfall over six games with a score of 1,066 at the Columbia 300 Saints Invite on January 29. She also matched the single-game best score with a 210 at the same event, sharing this record with fellow freshman Tarrah Phillips from Palatine, Illinois.
Looking ahead, Mutters and her team aim to build on their successful season as they prepare for their fourth year in competition come October.
