Illinois Wesleyan swim teams achieve second place finishes at Halloween Invite

The Illinois Wesleyan University swimming and diving teams hosted their annual Halloween Invite at Fort Natatorium on October 26, 2024. Both the men's and women's teams achieved second-place finishes, securing a total of 21 top-five placements.

In the men's competition, Illinois Wesleyan scored 83 points, finishing behind Augustana's 138 points. Anderson secured third place with 82 points, followed by Millikin with 57 points and North Central with 53 points. On the women's side, Illinois Wesleyan also placed second to Augustana's score of 145, collecting 73 points. Rose-Hulman finished third with 63 points, Anderson fourth with 60 points, Millikin fifth with 42 points, and North Central sixth with 14 points.

The women's team earned second-place finishes in three relay events: the 500-yard freestyle relay, the 200-yard medley relay, and the 200-yard freestyle relay. Kayleigh Kuschewski, Julianna Boyle, Natalie Porter, and Alexa Starkey teamed up for a time of "5:09.36" in the "500-free relay." Kuschewski and Starkey later joined Isabella Cano and Emily Marks for a "2:00.70" finish in the "200-yard medley relay." The quartet of Kuschewski, Marks, Cano, and Julia Jozwiak completed the "200-yard freestyle relay" in "1:48.18," narrowly defeating Rose-Hulman.

Individually on the women's side, Natalie Porter was fourth in the "500 freestyle" at "5:36.72." Julia Jozwiak came fifth in the "100 freestyle," touching at "58.14," while Emily Marks secured fifth in the "200 freestyle" with a time of "2:09.71." Isadora Tolpin posted a time of "2:47.82" to earn fifth place in the "200 butterfly," while Kuschewski claimed fifth in the "200 backstroke" at "2:22.76."

For the men's team events, freshmen Tate Thomas and Jacob Nacional along with Jay Jenkins and Carter Dilger took second place in the "200-yard freestyle relay," finishing just behind Augustana at a time of "1:33.00." Nacional also finished third individually in the "200-yard butterfly," posting a time of “2:09.68.” Thomas notched a fifth-place finish in the “200 free” at “1:55.04,” while Colin McKibben secured fifth place in the “200 back” at “2:14.45.”

David Ren was notable as he competed solo in the one-meter dive event where he collected “145.55” points.

Illinois Wesleyan will return to action on November 9th for a dual meet against DePauw University at Fort Natatorium starting at 6 p.m.
