A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City Of Pontiac Finance Department regarding sales tax records on October 25, 2024. The request was made by us at McLean County Times, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The records requested under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, include detailed information about sales tax collected from retailers since the beginning of the year until the present date. We have specifically asked for these records in an electronic format for ease of analysis and reporting.
The data fields we have requested include monthly sales tax collected from retailers compared to projected figures, the number of active retail locations paying sales tax each month, and the names of each retailer along with their gross retail sales reported for each month.
As a media organization, our role involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We will keep you updated on any developments or responses related to this FOIA request.
