Illinois State triumphs over North Dakota State in Fargo

FARGO, N.D. – The Illinois State men's basketball team secured a 77-68 victory over the North Dakota State Bison on Thursday evening. Johnny Kinziger led the Redbirds with 20 points, supported by Ty Pence's career-high 17 points.

Kinziger hit 6-of-11 shots and was perfect from the free throw line, while Pence made 7-of-11 shots and grabbed seven rebounds. Chase Walker contributed eight points and ten rebounds, while Dalton Banks added eight points, four rebounds, and four assists.

Illinois State will next face the Ohio Bobcats on Tuesday, November 12 at CEFCU Arena.

Redshirt freshman Cam Barnes scored his first collegiate points with eight on a perfect shooting performance. Malachi Poindexter added seven points for ISU.

The Redbirds committed only five turnovers during the game and out-rebounded NDSU 40-to-31. They also scored 28 points in the paint.

In a closely contested match, ISU took control after an early deficit with an 8-0 run. They held a lead of up to 13 points in the first half and entered halftime ahead by eleven at 42-31.

NDSU briefly led in the second half before ISU regained control to win by nine after an intense final two minutes where they outscored their opponents 11-2.

ISU shot nearly 48% from the field and converted eight three-pointers while maintaining a high free throw percentage. The Bison attempted more three-pointers than usual against ISU but managed only three successful free throws as fouls were minimal throughout the game.

The Redbirds' starting lineup included Dalton Banks, Landon Wolf, Johnny Kinziger, Ty Pence, and Chase Walker. The team's strong performance improved their record to 2-0 against North Dakota State historically.
