Illinois state volleyball defeats Murray state in four sets

The Illinois State volleyball team secured a victory against Murray State, winning in four sets and extending their road winning streak. This win brings Illinois State's record to 15-15 for the season and 10-7 in Missouri Valley Conference play. Meanwhile, Murray State's loss drops them to 14-12 overall and 9-8 in conference matches.

In the first set, Murray State initially took control but eventually lost momentum as Illinois State claimed the set with a score of 25-18. The second set saw Illinois State maintain their lead throughout, ending with a 25-19 win to even the match.

Illinois State began the third set strong with an early lead and maintained it despite Murray State's efforts to close the gap. The Redbirds won this set 25-22. The fourth and final set was closely contested, but Illinois State managed to pull ahead and secure a narrow 25-23 victory, clinching the match.

Key performers for Illinois State included Aida Shadewald with 21 kills, Sammi Bunch contributing 13 digs, Mekaila Aupiu setting a new career high with 53 assists, Caitlyn Little achieving three service aces, and Hannah Reichensperger leading in total blocks with three.

Statistically, Illinois State had a hitting percentage of .314 compared to Murray State's .281. Caitlyn Little also recorded her sixth double-double of the year with 15 kills and 11 digs.

Illinois State will conclude their regular season against Bradley on Wednesday at CEFCU Arena.
