Illinois State prepares for competition at Purdue Invite

The Illinois State Swimming and Diving team is set to compete at the Purdue University Invite from November 21 to November 23. The event will take place at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Participating teams include Illinois State from the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC), Florida International University from the American Athletic Conference (AAC), Purdue University from the Big Ten Conference (B1G), Southern Illinois also from MVC, McKendree University from the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), and Grand Canyon University from the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).

The schedule for the invite includes swimming preliminaries each day at 10 a.m. ET, springboard diving preliminaries on Thursday and Friday at 1 p.m., platform diving finals only on Saturday at 1 p.m., and finals sessions daily at 5 p.m.

Reflecting on last year's performance, Madyson Morse led the Redbirds by winning the 100-yard breaststroke with a Missouri Valley Conference season-best time of 1:00.34, setting an Illinois State school record. Senior Mia Snow achieved a top-five program time of 55.23 in the 100-yard fly and contributed to a fifth-place finish in the 200-medley relay alongside senior Emma Feltzer and junior Chloe Tyler.

In their most recent competition, Illinois State placed three athletes in the top five during an in-state tri-meet with Illinois and Southern Illinois. Diver Selena Corona secured fifth place on the three-meter board with a score of 196.45. In swimming events, their team finished fifth in the 200-yard medley relay, while Lauren Wisdom took fourth place in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:27.26. Mia Snow also claimed second place in the 100-fly with a time of 55:34.

The lineup for Illinois State over three days includes various swimmers competing across different events such as Sylvia Admire, Maya Burkstrand, Lauren Hervey, Amelia Murphy, Hope Westphal, Giulia Basco, Delaney Boulden among others.
