Illinois State's swimming and diving team had a strong start on the first day of the Purdue Invite in West Lafayette, Indiana. The team secured a top-five position with Emma Feltzer advancing to the 50-free A-Final. Five other Redbirds progressed to the B-final: Hope Westphal, Lauren Wisdom, and Sylvia Admire in the 500-free, followed by Mia Snow and Ella Turken in the 50-free.
In the finals, Sylvia Admire and Lauren Wisdom both placed in the top five of the 500-freestyle B-final. Amelia Murphy and Lauren Hervey also achieved top-five finishes in the C-final, with Hervey clocking a time of 5:08.61 and Murphy finishing at 5:06.20.
Several Redbirds recorded season-best times during preliminaries. Hope Westphal achieved a time of 5:05.63 in the 500-yard freestyle prelims, while Lauren Wisdom posted a time of 5:06.07, and Sylvia Admire recorded a time of 5:07.30.
Emma Feltzer advanced to the A-Final of the 50-free with a time of 23.07, placing fifth overall. Mia Snow and Ella Turken will compete in tonight's B-final after recording times of 23.62 and 23.66 respectively.
In diving events, Eva Reyes scored 252.98 and Selena Corona posted a score of 217.28 to advance to the B-final in the three-meter diving prelims.
The Redbird relay teams also performed well; Ella Turken, Mia Snow, Chloe Tyler finished fifth in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:33.15.
Looking ahead, Illinois State will continue competing on day two at Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center with swimming prelims starting at 10 a.m., followed by finals at 5 p.m., team diving competition at 5:15 p.m., and Springboard diving finals concluding at 5:50 p.m.
