Graduate student William Sinclair secured a 96th place finish at the NCAA Championships, completing the race in 29:53.0 on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wisconsin.
Sinclair became the sixth runner from Redbird history to achieve a top-100 finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. He joins Kevin Koski, Kyle Mattes, Christian Goy, Robert Breit, and Mike Baker as Illinois State runners who have reached this milestone.
Among 255 competitors, Sinclair improved his position by 80 spots from start to finish. At the 5,000-meter mark, he was in 148th place with a split time of 14:52.8. In the latter half of the race, he advanced by 52 positions to secure his top-100 placement.
Representing his conference alone, Sinclair recorded the highest finish for a Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) runner since Illinois State alum Kyle Mattes finished in 52nd place in 2018.
