Illinois Wesleyan secures dominant win against Webster in men's basketball

The Illinois Wesleyan University men's basketball team, ranked 16th nationally, secured a decisive 70-44 victory against Webster University on Saturday, November 23. This win concluded a flawless weekend at the Gorlok Classic and improved the Titans' record to 4-0. Conversely, Webster's Gorloks fell to 0-5.

Seniors Harrison Wilmsen and Marko Anderson were instrumental in the Titans' performance. Wilmsen led with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Anderson contributed 10 points and six rebounds. Junior Nathan Boldt matched Anderson's rebound count, alongside sophomore Mason Funk.

The Titans achieved a shooting rate of 40%, converting 26 out of their 65 attempts, including eight three-pointers from 24 tries. At the free throw line, they made ten out of seventeen shots. Defensively strong, Illinois Wesleyan limited Webster to a shooting percentage of just under 28%. The Gorloks completed six three-point shots out of eighteen attempts and were perfect at the free throw line with four successful shots.

Illinois Wesleyan controlled rebounding with a significant margin of 53-34 over Webster and had fewer turnovers than their opponents by two.

Wilmsen opened scoring for IWU before senior Nick Roper capitalized on sophomore Jackson Niego's steal to set up Hakim Williams for a layup.

Freshman Josh Fridman added a three-pointer followed by Anderson’s basket which gave IWU an early lead at 21-8 with over twelve minutes left in the first half.

Sophomore Karlo Colak extended this advantage further just before halftime as Illinois Wesleyan led by fifteen points going into the break.

In closing moments of play freshman Alex Miller secured what would be IWU’s largest lead—28 points—following an assist from sophomore Dylan Schmidt leading them towards their fifth consecutive win.

The Titans will now head to Chicago where they are scheduled to face University of Chicago on Wednesday November27with tipoff slated for4p.m.as they wrap uptheirfour-gameroadtrip
