Illinois Wesleyan swim teams secure second place at IWU Invite

The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swim and dive teams returned to competition at the annual IWU Invite on Saturday, November 23, in Bloomington, Illinois. The Titans faced Washington University in St. Louis for the second consecutive year, with the Bears emerging victorious in both men's and women's categories.

In the women's events, freshman diver Sarah Worsley from Shorewood, Illinois, placed third overall against two WashU divers in the 1-meter dive event with a score of 252.20 points over 11 dives. Senior Alexa Starkey teamed up with sophomore Sam Borre and freshmen Caroline Stenger and Isabella Cano for the 200-yard medley relay, securing sixth place with a time of 2:00.85.

Isabella Cano also achieved a fourth-place finish in the women's 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.24 seconds. Junior Natalie Porter claimed second place in the women's 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at 5:22.99 and improving her previous time by nearly ten seconds.

On the men's side, senior Carter Dilger along with junior Jay Jenkins and freshmen Jacob Nacional and Ben Huk participated in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing fifth with a time of 1:45.88. Dilger also secured second place in the men's 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.72 seconds.

The Titans are set to compete next at the Carthage Classic from December 5-7 at Kenosha's Koenitzer Aquatic Center.

Women’s events saw notable performances including Natalie Porter finishing fifth in the women’s 200-yard free (2:03.33) and sixth place finishes by Sam Borre in both the women’s 100-yard back (1:05.35) and women’s 200-yard back (2:20.29).

For men’s events, Tate Thomas placed tenth in men’s 200-yard free (1:54.77), while Jay Jenkins finished fourth in men’s 50-yard free (22.84) as well as eleventh in men’s 200-yard IM (2:10.29).
