Illinois State University's women's basketball team is set to participate in the 2024 Gulf Coast Showcase, held in Fort Myers, Florida. The team, with a current record of 2-2, will face Boise State for the first time on Friday at 10 a.m. CT. The showcase games will be broadcast on FloSports.
The event features seven teams, including Illinois State. Notably, two teams in the lineup—Texas and West Virginia—are ranked No.5 and No.12 respectively in the AP Top 25 Poll. Historically, Illinois State has played against Butler, Texas, and West Virginia.
In the previous season's postseason competitions, Illinois State was joined by Boise State and Butler in the WNIT. Meanwhile, Texas and West Virginia advanced to the NCAA Tournament; High Point and Santa Clara participated in the WBIT.
Elyce Knudsen has made an impressive impact since joining Illinois State's roster after recovering from an injury that sidelined her for two games. In her last two appearances, she averaged 17.5 points per game and demonstrated strong shooting skills with an 8-for-16 record from three-point range. Her recent performance included scoring 20 points against Harvard following a 15-point debut versus Le Moyne.
