Redbirds open MVC season against Belmont Bruins in Nashville

The Illinois State Redbirds are set to begin their 2024-25 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) season with a game against the Belmont Bruins in Nashville, Tennessee. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, December 4, at the Curb Events Center, with tip-off at 6 PM. It will be broadcast on ESPN+ and available on the Illinois State Radio Network.

Illinois State's Johnny Kinziger has achieved notable success this season, ranking third in the country for blocked shots among players under six feet tall. Dalton Banks has also made history by achieving perfect shooting statistics in a recent game. Freshman Jack Daugherty stands out as well, ranking 199th nationally in three-point field goals per game and tying school records for three-point baskets.

The Redbirds have demonstrated strong performances against preseason conference favorites, securing victories over Ohio and McNeese. They also excelled against Trinity Christian, achieving one of the largest scoring margins in program history.

Belmont enters the MVC opener with wins over Tulane and Gardner-Webb. Tyler Lundblade leads Belmont's scoring off the bench, while Jonathan Pierre excels in rebounds and assists.
