The Illinois State track and field team is preparing to kick off its 2024-25 season with the John Coughlan Invite at Horton Fieldhouse. The event begins on Friday, December 6, at 11:30 a.m. CT and concludes on Saturday, December 7, starting at 9:30 a.m. CT.
The invite is named in honor of former head coach John Coughlan, who led the Redbird Track & Field team for 23 years. Under his leadership, Illinois State won 18 Missouri Valley Conference team titles. Coughlan's contributions to the sport have been recognized with inductions into both the MVC Hall of Fame and the Illinois State Athletics Percy Family Hall of Fame.
This marks the third consecutive year that Illinois State will host the John Coughlan Invite. Competing alongside them will be men's and women's teams from Eastern Illinois and Valparaiso.
Illinois State aims to begin their new season positively following their placement in the Missouri Valley Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. The women's team was ranked third with 123 points, while the men's team secured second place with 85 points.
