Illinois Wesleyan University competes on day one at Carthage Classic

The Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU) men's and women's swim and dive teams traveled to Kenosha, Wisconsin, to participate in the Carthage Classic on Thursday, December 5. The Titans competed in three events during the first day of the three-day meet.

In the women's events, junior Natalie Porter from Danville, Illinois, achieved a runner-up finish in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:22.90. This performance marked an improvement of 22.32 seconds over her previous best this season and was slightly over 30 seconds away from her career-best time of 17:46.14. Senior Alexa Starkey from Normal, Illinois, also participated in the same event and secured the 11th position with a time of 19:07.08. Juniors Claire Paule and Julianna Boyle finished in 14th and 17th places with times of 19:13.66 and 19:30.34, respectively.

The team consisting of freshman Julia Jozwiak, sophomore Sam Borre, junior Kayleigh Kuschewski, and senior Emily Marks competed in the women's 800-yard freestyle relay event and finished tenth overall with a time of 8:44.24.

On the men's side, freshmen Jacob Nacional and Tate Thomas teamed up with junior Jay Jenkins and senior Carter Dilger for the men's 800-yard freestyle relay event. They completed their race in ninth place with a timing of 7:37.95.

The IWU swim team will continue their participation at the Carthage Classic on Friday in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Preliminary rounds are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., followed by finals at 5 p.m., which can be viewed via live stream on iwusports.com under the swim and dive schedule page.
