The Illinois State track and field team concluded its participation in the John Coughlan Invite on Saturday at Horton Field House. The event wrapped up with the final rounds of the men's heptathlon and women's pentathlon, continuing from Friday's competitions.
Senior Kiley Sanders made significant strides, moving to fifth place on Illinois State's all-time list for indoor pentathlon with a score of 3672 points. Sanders also achieved third place in the high jump category with a leap of 1.80 meters (5-10.75), following her entry into the top-10 list on Friday evening.
In the men's heptathlon, Senior Ariel Atias emerged victorious with a total score of 5179 points. Sophomore Ryan Schaefer secured sixth place on the top-10 list by accumulating 5034 points, surpassing the 5000-point mark through personal bests in events such as the 60m dash, 60m hurdles, and pole vault.
Both athletes stood out during this meet: Ariel Atias won in the men's heptathlon while Kiley Sanders triumphed in the women's pentathlon.
Looking ahead, Illinois State will compete again on January 17th at Horton Field House for the Coughlan-Malloy Cup.
