Illinois State University's volleyball players Mekaila Aupiu and Aida Shadewald have been recognized as CSC Academic All-District honorees. The announcement was made by College Sports Communicators on Tuesday.
The 2024 Academic All-District Volleyball teams honor student-athletes for their performance both academically and athletically. The program acknowledges honorees in four divisions: NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.
Aupiu and Shadewald are now eligible for the CSC Academic All-America ballot, with results to be revealed next month. The first-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on January 14, 2025.
Mekaila Aupiu, an environmental systems science & sustainability major, maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA. She has excelled on the court as well, ranking first in the NCAA with 1,368 assists this season and securing the MVC Setter of the Year title. Her achievements include reaching over 35 assists in most matches this year and setting a career high of 57 assists against Missouri State.
Aida Shadewald holds a strong academic record with a 3.96 GPA in molecular and cellular biology. On the court, she led her team with 385 kills during the season and achieved a personal best of 3.56 kills per set.
