The Illinois State Police have reported the tragic death of an Illinois State Trooper due to a vehicle crash. The incident was caused by a driver violating Scott's Law, which mandates that drivers must move over when approaching emergency vehicles with activated lights.

"We are devastated by the news that we have lost another Illinois State Trooper to a vehicle crash caused by the violation of Scott’s Law," said the statement from authorities. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Trooper Clay Carns during this difficult time."

Scott's Law, also known as the "Move Over" law, is intended to protect those who serve on roadways by requiring motorists to change lanes or reduce speed when approaching stationary emergency vehicles displaying flashing lights.

This unfortunate event underscores the importance of adhering to traffic laws designed to ensure safety for all road users.
