Illinois State starts gymnastics season third at Missouri event

The Illinois State gymnastics team began their 2025 season with a third-place finish at the Mizzou Beauty and the Beast event, a combined gymnastics and wrestling competition held in Columbia, Missouri. The Redbirds achieved a team score of 194.800, trailing behind Missouri, who scored 196.700, and Ball State with 194.925.

Coach Conkling expressed pride in the team's performance, stating, "I am so proud of the team and how they performed tonight. We started so strong on bars and kept the momentum all the way through the next three events finishing with a very strong vault rotation. I feel the team gained a lot of confidence that should carry us well into the remainder of the season."

During the meet, Illinois State initially placed second after scoring 48.775 on bars but dropped to third place following their beam performance with a score of 48.225. They maintained this position after scoring 48.825 on floor and concluded with a vault score of 48.975.

Individually, Alana Laster secured first place in vault with a score of 9.875 while Jaye Mack took third with 9.825. Jaly Jones made an impressive debut by finishing third overall in all-around scoring at 38.900, while Mya Robinson came fifth with 38.475.

Other notable performances included Jada Beswick's tie for tenth place on bars with a score of 9.800 and Leah Davis leading ISU on balance beam also securing tenth place with a score of 9.700.

Illinois State will next compete in Battle Creek, Michigan at the Next Level Gymnastics Podium Challenge hosted by Western Michigan on January 11th against George Washington and Pittsburgh.
