The Illinois State Redbirds faced a challenging game on the road against Evansville, resulting in a 69-51 defeat. The game took place on Wednesday evening in Evansville, Indiana.

Malachi Poindexter led the Redbirds with 14 points, shooting 6-of-9 from the field and 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. Chase Walker contributed nine points, while Landon Wolf, Johnny Kinziger, and Jack Daugherty each added seven points to the team's effort.

Jordan Davis was prominent in rebounds for Illinois State with seven, followed by Wolf with six and Daugherty with five. Dalton Banks, Kinziger, Walker, and Caden Boser each provided two assists during the game.

With this loss, the Redbirds' record stands at 10-6 overall and 2-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC). They are set to return to CEFCU Arena for their next matchup against Northern Iowa Panthers on Saturday, January 11 at 6 p.m.

Both teams struggled offensively at the start of the game. Evansville scored first after more than four minutes into play. The Redbirds quickly responded but could not maintain a lead as Evansville pushed ahead by two points midway through the first half. Despite cutting down an eight-point deficit to four before halftime with a three-pointer from Kinziger, ISU could not regain control in the second half.

In terms of shooting accuracy, Illinois State managed only 34.6% from field goals and converted just nine out of their thirty-one three-point attempts (29%). They also made only half of their twelve free throw attempts. In contrast, Evansville succeeded in making half of their shots and one-third of their three-point attempts.

Evansville's Tayshwan Comer stood out as he scored nineteen points along with providing five assists. Tanner Cuff and Cameron Haffner both scored fourteen points each while Joshua Hughes added ten points to secure victory for Evansville.

Illinois State's starting lineup consisted of Dalton Banks (3), Landon Wolf (4), Johnny Kinziger (11), Ty Pence (22), and Chase Walker (35). This lineup has been used thirteen times this season resulting in a record of nine wins and three losses when utilized.

Chase Walker opened scoring for ISU with a lay-up early into play marking his sixth time achieving this feat within current season - highest among teammates so far.
