Illinois State University's women's basketball team is preparing for a significant week, facing two undefeated teams in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC). The Redbirds, with an 8-6 overall record and 2-1 in MVC play, will first host the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) on Friday at CEFCU Arena. UNI shares the same overall record but remains unbeaten in conference games at 3-0. The match is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

On Sunday, Illinois State will welcome Drake University to their home court. Drake stands at 9-5 overall and also boasts a perfect conference record of 3-0. This game will commence at 2 p.m.

The Redbirds have planned promotional events for both games. Friday's event is themed 'WHITEOUT,' where the first 400 attendees will receive a complimentary white T-shirt. Sunday's event, 'Pack the Arena,' offers free admission to all fans attending the game against Drake.

The upcoming game against UNI marks the 92nd meeting between these two teams, with Illinois State leading historically by a narrow margin of 48-43. Last season, Illinois State won one out of three encounters with UNI, including a notable victory fueled by DeAnna Wilson's performance of 26 points and eight rebounds.

Sunday's clash with Drake will be their 93rd meeting since their series began in 1981. Drake leads this rivalry with a record of 52 wins to Illinois State's 40. Last season saw each team securing one win against the other, with Illinois State achieving an important victory over Drake during conference play.

Doneelah Washington has been recognized as MVC Freshman of the Week for her third time this season after averaging impressive stats last week. She recorded her first double-double against Indiana State and continued strong performances throughout recent games.

Nevaeh Thomas has also shown remarkable form, recording double-doubles in four out of her last five games for Illinois State.

Senior Caroline Waite achieved a career milestone by surpassing 1,000 career points during Saturday’s game against Evansville.

In another highlight from last week, Illinois State scored an impressive total of 96 points against Indiana State—the highest score they have achieved against an MVC opponent since joining the conference in its current format.
