Redshirt junior Addison Martin has been named the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season. The announcement was made by the league office on Monday.
Martin delivered strong performances last week, averaging 13 points, seven rebounds, 1.5 assists, and two steals per game. She achieved these statistics with an impressive shooting accuracy of 78.5% from the field, going 11-for-14 in games against UNI and Drake. Notably, she scored in double figures in consecutive Valley games for the first time this season.
In a game against UNI, Martin recorded a season-high of 14 points on 6-for-7 shooting (85.7%), contributing to Illinois State's victory over UNI, which marked their first MVC loss of the year. Additionally, she added six rebounds, two assists, and two steals during that game on Friday.
Against Drake, Martin accumulated 12 points, eight rebounds, two steals, and one block while shooting 5-for-7 (71.4%) from the floor.
On Sunday, Martin achieved at least two steals for the fourth time in Valley play this season. She is currently the only player in the MVC to have recorded at least two steals in four Valley games.
Martin leads the MVC with a field goal percentage of 78.1% in Valley play. She has consistently shot above 65% from the floor in five MVC games this season—an achievement unmatched by any other player in the conference.
This recognition marks Martin's second MVC Newcomer of the Week award since her debut performance on November 6 against Northwestern when she posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. This is also Illinois State's third such honor this season following Elyce Knudsen's accolade on December 2.
