Even as new laws sponsored by Illinois House Republicans were enacted this year to assist survivors of human trafficking, the Safe-T Act, passed by Illinois Democrats, is facing criticism. The act allows alleged traffickers to remain out of jail pending trials after their arrests, raising concerns about potential risks to new victims.

Rep. Tipsword expressed his disapproval of the act's pre-trial release provisions for alleged human traffickers. He stated, "Another example of what failed criminal justice policy looks like."

The debate continues as lawmakers and community members discuss the implications of these legislative measures on public safety and justice.
