The Illinois State Track & Field team is set to participate in the Larry Wieczorek Invitational, marking their first road trip of the 2024-25 season. The event will take place in Iowa City, beginning on Friday at 11 a.m. and continuing on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
This marks the fourth consecutive year that the Redbirds will compete in this invitational. The team aims to recover from a recent close defeat against Indiana State in the Coughlan-Malloy Cup, where they were narrowly beaten with a score of 157-145. Despite the loss, Illinois State achieved 14 event victories, bringing their total wins for the season to 29 across two meets.
Sophomore Immaculate Daniel made headlines by breaking Illinois State's record for the 60m dash with a time of 7.26 seconds. This achievement surpassed D'Jenne Egharevba's previous record from 2018.
Additionally, seniors Mattison Plummer and Kiley Sanders set new meet records at the Coughlan-Malloy Cup. Plummer recorded a time of 9:38.15 in the women's 3000m race, while Sanders reached a height of 1.78 meters (5 feet, 10 inches) in the women's high jump.
In addition to these records, five Redbirds secured spots on Illinois State's top-10 lists for their respective events during Friday's competition. Overall, through two meets this season, Illinois State has added eleven new entries to these top-10 lists.
