Notre Dame defeats Illinois State in men's tennis matchup

Illinois State men's tennis faced a challenging match against the nationally-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish, resulting in a 6-1 defeat on Sunday afternoon at the Eck Tennis Pavilion in South Bend, Indiana.

In singles competition, Illinois State freshman Christian Capacci achieved a victory at No. 4, defeating Kyran Magimay of Notre Dame in straight sets with scores of 7-6 and 6-4.

The Redbirds are set to return to action on February 1st at Evergreen Racquet Club, where they will host Northern Illinois University Huskies from the Mid-American Conference. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 PM.

In doubles play, Corsillo and Zhang from Notre Dame defeated Caden Scarlett and Tomas Valencia of Illinois State with a score of 6-2. The second doubles match between Nad/Thompson (ND) and Christian Capacci/Tin Ostro (ISU) remained unfinished at 5-2. Becker and Bilsey from Notre Dame secured another win by defeating Tom Bevan and Manuel Pavia from Illinois State with a score of 6-1.

The singles matches saw Thompson (ND) overcoming Tomas Valencia (ISU) with scores of 6-3, 6-2; Zhang (ND) winning against Tin Ostro (ISU) with scores of 6-2, 6-2; Nad (ND) beating Jett Leong (ISU) with scores of 6-3, 6-4; Corsillo (ND) defeating Finn Logue (ISU) with scores of 6-3, 6-4; and Bilsey (ND) winning over Tom Bevan (ISU) with scores of 6-1, 6-2.
