Illinois State women's tennis team secured a 5-2 victory against Marquette Golden Eagles in Milwaukee. The match took place at the Sprovieri Tennis Complex, where Illinois State won two doubles matches and four singles matches.
The Redbirds are set to travel to New York for upcoming matches against Fordham Rams and St. John's Red Storm. Both contests will be held at the USTA National Tennis Center.
Head coach Maja Kovacek expressed satisfaction with the team's performance in tie-breakers, stating, "We were a bit up and down in doubles, but I was happy with how we played the tiebreaker in the deciding match. I think it gave us good momentum for the start of singles matches."
In doubles play, Lana Caculovic and Silvia Pomarolli defeated their opponents 6-2, while Elena Jankulovska and Emma Lindh secured a win with scores of 7-1 and 7-6. In singles, Emma Lindh triumphed over her opponent with a decisive 6-1, 6-1 scoreline. Nuria Sanz also contributed to the victory by defeating her opponent 6-4, 6-2.
The team looks forward to continuing their season on February 7th and 8th in New York.
