Illinois State's Addison Martin has been named the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Newcomer of the Week for the third time this season. The announcement was made by the league office on Monday. Martin's performances last week helped lift the Redbirds to an 8-2 record in MVC play.

Martin averaged 17.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 68.1% from the field, leading Illinois State to victories over Southern Illinois and Missouri State. These wins extended the Redbird win streak to five games.

In a standout performance against Southern Illinois, Martin scored a season-high 23 points with seven rebounds and three assists, shooting 81% from the field. She is one of only six players in the Valley to achieve a game with more than 20 points on better than 80% shooting in an MVC game this season and is the only newcomer to do so.

Against Missouri State, Martin scored 12 points on 54.5% shooting, marking her tenth consecutive game shooting over 50% in MVC play. She leads the league with a shooting percentage of 65.0% overall and 72.0% in Valley play.

This marks the fifth time a Redbird player has received MVC Newcomer of the Week honors this season, more than any other team in the conference. Last week, Elyce Knudsen also earned this recognition for Illinois State.

Martin joins Southern Illinois' Gift Uchenna as one of two players to receive three MVC Newcomer of the Week honors this season.
