Illinois Wesleyan men's tennis hosts Lawrence for home opener

For the first time in the 2024-25 season, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team will play at its home facility, Evergreen Racquet Club. The Titans, currently holding a record of 0-3, are set to host Lawrence University on Friday night, February 7. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:15 p.m.

Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU) is making its home debut after recent losses on the road. They faced Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana, with a score of 6-1 and lost to Division II Cedarville University with a score of 7-0 at a neutral site on Saturday, February 1. In their match against Wabash College (1-0), IWU's only point came from junior Griffin Hammond from Metamora Township High School. He secured a win in No. 5 singles with scores of 7-6(6) and 6-2. Additionally, Hammond and sophomore Chase Tomecki from Downers Grove South High School won in doubles with a score of 6-4 in the No. 3 slot. This victory marked Tomecki's first career doubles win.

The upcoming match against Lawrence University (2-2) marks the third encounter between these teams since their series began in 2009. Illinois Wesleyan holds a lead with two wins over Lawrence, including their last meeting on February 3, 2024, where they achieved a decisive 9-0 victory. Lawrence comes into this match following a narrow win over the University of Northwestern (Minnesota) with a score of 4-3 on Saturday, February 1.
