Illinois State women's basketball team faced a challenging game against the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) at the McLeod Center, resulting in a 72-52 loss. The Redbirds struggled with shooting accuracy, recording a season-low 30.4% from the field and 25.0% from beyond the arc.
Nevaeh Thomas was the standout player for Illinois State, scoring 13 points alongside five rebounds and one block. Despite her efforts, she was the only Redbird to reach double figures in scoring.
The game began competitively, with both teams exchanging scores early on. However, UNI established a lead at 15-13 that they maintained throughout the match. By halftime, UNI had extended their advantage to 38-29.
In the second half, Illinois State attempted to close the gap but could not bring it within one possession of UNI's lead. A decisive 14-4 run by UNI in the fourth quarter solidified their victory over Illinois State.
Addison Martin contributed significantly on defense for Illinois State by securing ten rebounds during Sunday's game, marking her second double-digit rebound performance this season. Freshman Doneelah Washington also made an impact defensively with her 26th block of the season, leading all freshmen in blocks within the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC).
