Illinois State senior pitcher Joe Husak has been included in the 2025 Watch List for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Award. The announcement was made by the organization on Wednesday.
The watch list, which recognizes the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball, features seventy-six players. Husak and UIC's Reece Lawler represent the Missouri Valley Conference on this year's list.
In 2024, Husak earned Honorable Mention All-Missouri Valley Conference honors. He led the Redbirds with seven saves and had a team-low 3.96 ERA. Additionally, he achieved a 5-3 record with 35 strikeouts over 50 innings in 24 appearances.
Nominations for the award were submitted by baseball sports information and media relations contacts. An updated list will be released mid-season during the week of April 23. Finalists will be announced on June 4 before the NCAA Super Regional tournament begins.
The Illinois State baseball team is set to start their season on February 14 against Western Kentucky at noon. Fans can follow live stats at goredbirds.com.
