The Illinois State Track & Field team is preparing for a trip to Nashville, Tennessee, to compete in the Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt University. The event is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday and will span two days.
This marks the second consecutive year that the Redbirds will participate in this event following their recent success at the Keck Select Invitational. During last weekend's competition, three student-athletes from Illinois State achieved notable performances, earning spots on the program's top-10 list for their respective events. Overall, Illinois State has seen 30 performances either enter or climb up its top-10 list this season.
Freshman Braeden Brown made an impressive start on Saturday by scoring 4625 points in the men's heptathlon, securing ninth place in Illinois State history with his performance.
Junior Karlie Stauder also joined Brown in entering the program's top-10 list by clearing a height of 3.71 meters (12 feet 2 inches), which places her ninth in Redbird history.
Sophomore Jacob Klink became the third athlete of the day to achieve a spot on the program's top-10 list with a shot put throw measuring 17.05 meters (55 feet 11.25 inches). Klink now holds eighth place in Illinois State history for shot put and maintains a top-10 ranking for both indoor and outdoor shot put events.
The Music City Challenge can be viewed via ESPN+ throughout both days of competition.
