The Illinois State Track & Field team concluded the first day of the Music City Challenge in Nashville on Friday. During this initial day, seven athletes from the team either entered or improved their standings on the program's top-10 list for their respective events. This achievement marks the highest number of top-10 entries in a single meet day for Illinois State this season. So far, 36 Redbirds have achieved a top-10 mark in program history during the 2024-25 season.
Junior Karlie Stauder continued her strong performance from last week's Keck Select by clearing a height of 3.72 meters (12-2.5) in women's pole vault, placing her ninth in Illinois State's history for this event.
Sophomore Grace Erb joined the program's top-10 list for the women's mile with a time of 4:50.50, now ranking tenth all-time at Illinois State.
Junior Star Mpama earned her second top-10 mark of the season by running 1:32.41 in the 600m run, improving on her previous best set at January's Larry Wieczorek Invitational at Iowa.
Juniors Erin Starks and another athlete both recorded top-10 times in the women's 200m dash, with Starks achieving a time of 24.03 and Miller finishing at 24.17. These results place them fourth and fifth respectively in Redbird history.
In men's events, Freshman Zach Paul secured a top-10 spot with his time of 21.62 in the 200m dash. Paul has accumulated four top-10 marks across various events including the 60m dash, 200m dash, 400m dash, and 4x400m relay—more than any other Redbird this season.
Sophomore Brody Squires also made it onto the program's top-10 list with a jump measuring 7.29 meters (23-11).
The competition will continue on Saturday as the Redbirds return to action at Nashville’s Music City Challenge starting at 8:30 a.m.
