The Illinois State men's tennis team faced a challenging match against the Northwestern Wildcats, resulting in a 7-0 defeat at the Combe Tennis Center. The Redbirds were unable to secure victories in both singles and doubles play during this non-conference matchup.
In doubles, Northwestern's Miller and Goli defeated Illinois State's Tomas Valencia and Adrian Dibildox with a score of 7-5. Nordby and Casey of Northwestern were leading against Tom Bevan and Christian Capacci from Illinois State at 6-6 before the match was unfinished. Pate and Yang from Northwestern won against Tin Ostro and Caden Scarlett of Illinois State, finishing 6-4.
The singles matches saw similar outcomes for Illinois State. Goli from Northwestern defeated Tomas Valencia with scores of 6-1, 6-4. Casey triumphed over Adrian Dibildox with a scoreline of 6-4, 7-5. Nordby beat Tin Ostro, ending their match at 6-1, 7-5. Pate overcame Christian Capacci after three sets: 6-7, 6-1, and finally winning the tiebreaker at 1-0. Bengtsson dominated Jett Leong with a decisive win of two sets at 6-0 each. Lastly, Miller concluded the day by defeating Caden Scarlett with scores of 6-4, 6-1.
Looking ahead, Illinois State will host Western Michigan Broncos inside Evergreen Racquet Club on Sunday at noon.
