The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team commenced its 2025 season with a 16-10 victory over Transylvania University at the Music City Classic in Nashville, Tennessee. This marks Illinois Wesleyan's first win of the season, while Transylvania falls to 0-2.
Freshmen Carlo Adams and Jeremy Langosch each scored their first collegiate goals for the Titans. A trio of players led the team in scoring, with fifth-year Ike Eastburn netting all his points through goals, Gage Black contributing three goals and an assist, and sophomore Timothy McHugh recording three assists and one goal.
Defensively, senior Nick Schroeder collected six ground balls, succeeded in 13 out of 20 face-offs, and scored a goal. Senior Sam Weinberg caused three turnovers—a game-high—and added two goals along with an assist.
Senior Colin Tervo played as goalkeeper throughout the match, making 11 saves with a .524 save percentage.
McHugh assisted Weinberg for the opening goal just 19 seconds into the game before helping Adams score his first collegiate goal, giving IWU an early lead. The Titans ended the first period leading by one goal at 5-4 after Transylvania narrowed a three-goal gap.
In the second period, Transylvania took a brief lead of 7-6 into halftime after outscoring IWU. Schroeder quickly equalized at the start of the second half before Transylvania regained their advantage shortly after.
Eastburn leveled again with help from senior Sam Skelton before Black initiated a four-goal streak for IWU. This included contributions from Black himself, McHugh, and fifth-year Bob Boone to secure a lead of 12-8 by late in the third period.
Transylvania reduced their deficit with a man-up goal at the close of the third quarter. However, Eastburn expanded IWU's lead early in the fourth period with an assist from junior Noah Dretzka. The Titans continued to solidify their position through further goals from Black and Langosch.
Illinois Wesleyan will conclude its participation in this event against Centre College on Sunday afternoon in Nashville.
