Illinois State pitcher Hannah Meshnick has been recognized as the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week. The announcement was made by the league office on Tuesday, following her impressive performance at the Puerto Vallarta College Classic in Mexico.
Meshnick's achievement places her alongside other conference award winners: Southern Illinois' Jackie Lis as Player of the Week, Emily Williams as Newcomer of the Week, and Belmont's Rylee Spindler as Freshman of the Week.
During her time in Mexico, Meshnick pitched 14.1 innings without allowing an earned run for Illinois State. In two starts, she maintained a record of 1-1. Her performance against FIU included seven scoreless innings before conceding three unearned runs in an extra-inning loss. She bounced back with a complete-game victory over North Dakota State, securing a 3-0 win while giving up eight hits.
So far this season, Meshnick has participated in five games for Illinois State, starting four times. She holds a 2-2 record and has given up six earned runs over 33.2 innings while striking out ten batters. Her efforts have resulted in a team-leading ERA of 1.25.
