A group of seven Illinois State football players has been recognized as part of the Missouri Valley Football Conference's (MVFC) 40th Anniversary Team. The announcement was made on Tuesday, following a fan voting process that lasted 40 days and gathered over 2,000 ballots.
The MVFC, established in 1985, is known as a leading NCAA FCS conference. It concluded its 40th season with North Dakota State winning its 14th NCAA Division I FCS title on January 6, 2025.
The league's history boasts numerous achievements including national championships, top national rankings, and various accolades for players and coaches. Notably, North Dakota State secured five consecutive national titles from 2011 to 2015 and three more from 2017 to 2019. Other notable champions include Youngstown State University in 1997, Western Kentucky University in 2002, South Dakota State University in both 2022 and 2023, and additional titles for NDSU in recent years.
Illinois State players named to the anniversary team are Boomer Grigsby (LB), Tre Roberson (QB), Marshaun Coprich (RB), James Robinson (RB), Laurént Robinson (WR), James O'Shaughnessy (TE), and JT Bohlken (P).
