State Representative Dennis Tipsword of Metamora responded to Governor Pritzker's recent Budget and State of the State Address. In his statement, Rep. Tipsword criticized the proposed budget, which he claims is the largest in Illinois history, with an increase of nearly $2 billion from the previous year.
Rep. Tipsword expressed concerns about the revenue estimates in the budget, describing them as based on "very aggressive data" and involving "new taxes, transfers, and other gimmicks." He suggested that a forthcoming report from the Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability (CGFA) in March will provide clarity on these figures. He warned that Illinois residents might face tax hikes and adverse policies due to a looming large budget deficit.
He further criticized Governor Pritzker for what he described as focusing on "name-calling and fearmongering" rather than addressing cost reductions for Illinois families. Rep. Tipsword also noted that no amount of blaming former President Trump could rectify what he perceives as poor decisions made by Illinois Democrats under current leadership.
Rep. Tipsword emphasized that House Republicans will continue advocating for economic growth through sound policies while opposing any tax increases.
