The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team achieved a 13-7 victory against Aurora University in Montgomery, Illinois. This win brings the Titans to a 3-0 record for the season, while it was the first game and loss for the Spartans.
Sophomore Timothy McHugh led with four points, including one goal and three assists. Senior Ike Eastburn scored three goals. Other contributors included John Kittoe, Gage Black, Sam Weinberg, and Noah Dretzka, each scoring twice.
On defense, Nick Horrocks caused four turnovers and collected three ground balls. Sam Skelton contributed with three turnovers and two ground balls. Goalie Colin Tervo made 19 saves despite Aurora's lead in shots.
Nick Schroeder gathered five ground balls and succeeded in eight out of fifteen faceoffs. Michael Rocco won four out of five faceoffs.
Statistically, the Titans excelled over the Spartans in several areas: assists (8-4), ground balls (21-12), saves (19-11), clears (25-18), and faceoffs (13-9). Aurora took more shots than IWU but had more turnovers.
The game began with Schroeder winning the initial faceoff and passing to McHugh who assisted Weinberg for a quick goal. The Titans maintained their lead throughout the match with significant contributions from Black, Kittoe, Eastburn, Dretzka, and others.
Illinois Wesleyan will next play against Benedictine University on February 26th in Lisle at 6 p.m.
