Illinois State University's gymnastics team celebrated a significant achievement this week as senior gymnast Mya Robinson earned recognition for her outstanding performance. Competing in a tri-meet last Saturday at Illinois, Robinson excelled by securing an event win and being named ISU's top all-around performer.
Robinson's efforts were acknowledged with two prestigious honors from the Midwest Independent Conference (MIC). She was awarded the title of Co-Gymnast of the Week and also received the MIC Performance of the Week award. This marks Robinson's second Gymnast of the Week honor this season, while it is her first time receiving the Performance of the Week accolade.
Her impressive performance included achieving a season-high score of 9.875 on vault, which contributed to her earning these awards. Overall, she achieved a solid all-around score of 38.600, finishing third behind competitors Chloe Cho from Illinois and Mary McDonough from Washington.
The Redbirds are scheduled to return home on Friday to host a quad meet at Horton Field House. They will compete against Centenary, Central Michigan, and Bowling Green, with events set to commence at 7 p.m.
