The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team is set to host Edgewood College and Lake Forest College in their home opening weekend. The Titans, currently holding a 1-1 record, will face Edgewood on Saturday, March 1 at 4 p.m., followed by a match against Lake Forest on Sunday, March 2 at 1 p.m.
The team returns home after securing a decisive 23-0 victory over the Illinois Institute of Technology. This win marked the first shutout for the Titans since April 10, 2019, and was also the first win for new head coach Abby Kushina. Junior Sadie Newton led with seven points and four assists, while senior Avery Setzler scored five goals. Senior Mia Fiandaca set single-game records with eight caused turnovers and ten ground balls.
Setzler leads the team with ten points this season from eight goals and two assists. Newton follows closely with nine points from five assists and four goals. Fiandaca has six points from her goals alone. In draw controls, Newton and Fiandaca each have twelve wins this season.
In goalkeeping duties, senior Lizzie Rymarcsuk has played 90 minutes with ten saves and a .500 save percentage. Freshman Marli Brown made her debut by stopping a free-position attempt.
Illinois Wesleyan has previously faced Edgewood twice, winning both encounters including last year's 17-10 victory. The Titans will meet Lake Forest for only the second time after losing to them last year.
Edgewood enters this weekend after a loss to College of Saint Benedict. Lake Forest narrowly lost its season opener against Carroll University.
