After a narrow defeat in their opening game against Middle Tennessee, the Redbirds secured a 3-0 victory over Ball State on the first day of the MTSU Tournament in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

In the initial game against Middle Tennessee, Illinois State took an early lead with Adisyn Hopkins hitting a double and scoring on Ella Boyer's RBI single. Pitcher Hannah Meshnick held Middle Tennessee scoreless for six innings but conceded two solo home runs in the seventh inning, resulting in a 2-1 loss for the Redbirds.

The second game saw a different outcome as Illinois State faced Ball State. The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning when the Redbirds scored three runs. Delainey Bryant walked and advanced to third base following Bella Atkinson's single. Hopkins then drove in Bryant with an RBI single. Abby Knight contributed with another RBI single, and Bella Wilkerson's sacrifice fly brought in Hopkins to complete the scoring at 3-0. Pitcher Hannah Meeks delivered a strong performance, allowing no hits or runs over seven innings.
