Illinois State triumphs over Central Michigan in Redbird Quad meet

Illinois State University emerged victorious in the Redbird Quad meet, overcoming Central Michigan with a final score of 195.725 on Friday night at Horton Field House. The competition was close throughout, with the Chippewas maintaining a slight lead until the final rotation when Illinois State scored 49.075 on floor to secure their win.

The scoring breakdown for the meet was as follows: Illinois State led with 195.725, followed by Central Michigan at 195.500, Bowling Green at 193.575, and Centenary at 189.250.

Coach Conkling expressed satisfaction with his team's performance, stating, "I was very happy with how the team remained positive, focused, and confident from the start of the meet to the end." He added that there is still room for improvement as they continue through the season.

The Redbirds began their competition on vault with a score of 48.675 but quickly gained momentum in rotation two by scoring 49.100 on bars—a mark that ties for third highest in school history and is their best since 2022. They maintained consistency on beam with a score of 48.875 before delivering a strong finish on floor.

Individually, Alana Laster tied for first place on vault alongside Lia Kmieciak from Central Michigan with scores of 9.825 each; Jaye Mack shared third place honors with Avah Bootz from Central Michigan scoring 9.800 each.

On bars, Sara Wabi achieved a personal-best score of 9.900 securing first place; Jaly Jones finished third (9.850), while Reese Grolla tied for fourth (9.825). Ally Lau claimed victory on balance beam scoring 9.850 narrowly ahead of Mack who scored second (9.825); Jones tied fourth position achieving (9.800).

Laster also excelled in floor exercises tying first again—this time sharing it Luciana Alvarado-Reid from Central Michigan both earning scores of (9 .875); Wabi took third position achieving (9 .850) while Mya Robinson shared fifth position reaching (9 .800).

Looking ahead to future competitions—the Redbirds are set face off against Minnesota Saturday March eighth beginning four p.m CT Maturi Pavilion Minneapolis .
