The Illinois Wesleyan University track and field teams had a productive first day at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The Titans achieved nine All-CCIW performances and secured victories in two events: the women's 5,000m race and the distance medley relay.
Annalese Chudy, a senior from Libertyville, Illinois, claimed the CCIW title in the women's 5,000m with a time of 18:28.76. Her performance was six seconds faster than her nearest competitor.
The women's distance medley relay team, consisting of Emma McGrath, Jordynn Griffin, Adriana Crabtree, and Alex Reinhart, successfully defended their CCIW title with a time of 12:16.98. They finished with a significant lead over the second-place team and recorded the eighth fastest time in program history.
On the men's side, junior Isaac Whitaker and freshman Sam Churchill both earned All-CCIW honors in pole vaulting. Whitaker cleared 4.61 meters to finish third overall while Churchill cleared 4.31 meters to secure sixth place.
Carlyssa King took third place in the women's weight throw with a throw of 15.69 meters to earn All-CCIW recognition. Nick Fisch also achieved an All-CCIW spot by finishing eighth in the men's 5,000m race with a time of 15:25.10.
In men's long jump events, Jahari Scott led his teammates by finishing second with a jump measuring 6.99 meters—the second-best mark in school history—while Carson Green and Nick Walker finished fifth and sixth respectively.
Several athletes advanced to Saturday's finals including Alex Harvey and Joe Freedman in the men's 55m dash as well as Imani Ogunribido who progressed to the women's final event for that category.
By day's end, Illinois Wesleyan's men were placed second overall with 28 points while their women held fifth place with 26 points; North Central led both categories scoring at least ten more points than IWU’s teams respectively.
The championships will continue on Saturday morning starting at half-past nine o'clock.
