The Illinois State men's tennis team faced a challenging match against Saint Mary's University of California, resulting in a 6-1 defeat at the Colter Tennis Facility in Phoenix. This brings Illinois State's record to 4-11, while Saint Mary's secured their first win of the season, improving to 1-8.
Illinois State will next compete on March 9 when they travel to face the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Hoover Met Tennis Center.
In doubles play, Saint Mary's pairs Ramos/Maxant and Dyer/Lieutaud defeated Illinois State's Tomas Valencia/Adrian Dibildox and Tom Bevan/Christian Capacci respectively, both with scores of 6-2. The third doubles match between Etchecoin/Greco and Tin Ostro/Caden Scarlett was unfinished with a score of 5-4.
During singles competition, Saint Mary's players dominated most matches. Ramos won against Tomas Valencia with scores of 6-1, 6-2; Maxant defeated Adrian Dibildox in two tiebreak sets; Etchecoin overcame Tin Ostro; and Dyer bested Christian Capacci. Lieutaud also secured a victory over Finn Logue. However, Jett Leong from Illinois State managed to secure a win against Duran with scores of 6-1, 6-4.
