Illinois State's Elyce Knudsen has been recognized as the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Newcomer of the Week for the fourth time this season. The announcement was made by the league office on Monday. During last week's games, Knudsen averaged 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game, achieving a shooting percentage of 60% from the floor and 72.7% from three-point range.
In a standout performance against Valparaiso on Sunday, Knudsen scored 24 points and grabbed six rebounds. This was the highest point total recorded by a newcomer in a single game last week. She equaled her career high with six three-pointers during her fourth game scoring over 20 points in MVC play. Her shooting accuracy included an impressive 8-for-13 (61.5%) from the field and 6-for-9 (66.7%) from beyond the arc.
Knudsen has consistently reached double figures in scoring for six consecutive games, averaging 13.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per game with a shooting percentage of 44.1% from the field and 39.8% from three-point range in MVC play this season.
This recognition marks the seventh time this season that an Illinois State player has received the MVC Newcomer of the Week honor, more than any other team in the conference. Addison Martin has also been named MVC Newcomer of the Week three times this season on February 3rd, January 13th, and November 11th.
